Marisa Lewis, Williamsburg County School District’s Teacher of the Year

Marisa gives her all teaching 4th grade at Hemingway Elementary School! Here is a bit of her story in her own words:

“I have always known I wanted to be a teacher. I started off like most little girls, playing with and teaching her dolls. As I got older, I veered away but ended up doing what I am so passionate about, which is teaching. The most satisfying part of my day is knowing how eager my students are to continue working and not wanting to leave the class.

I would tell someone considering entering the teaching profession to, ‘come on board. We need caring and dedicated teachers.’ There are many educators who are willing to assist with any task that needs help. In this profession, we are a team and there is no ‘I’ in team. The hardest part of being a teacher is knowing that, due to home lifestyles and other distractions, I cannot save every child. While knowing this, it doesn’t stop me from trying my hardest to make a difference in their lives.

What I love most about my job is the joy of knowing that I am helping students to become productive citizens in this world. Not only am I having fun while teaching but the students are having fun while learning.”
