Katie Saunders from Greenville County Schools. Katie is a 1st and 2nd grade teacher from Bethel Elementary School. Here is a bit of her story!
“I first knew that I wanted to be a teacher my sophomore year of college at Furman University. I took an Education Class to fulfill a general requirement, and as part of the class, I was assigned to a local third grade classroom for field experience. I fell in love with those students and watching them progress. I realized that was where my heart was, and I’ve never looked back!
The most satisfying part of my day is to see students excited about learning. Whether we are singing a song, solving a “real mystery” as we study genres, or having an “Author’s Tea” to share our writing, I just love to see the students’ smiling faces when they are learning and having fun at the same time.
What I would say to potential teachers is, “we need people who love students, love teaching, and who also love learning.” It is hard work; but it is worth it. At the end of the day, when you see the impact that you are making with your students, when you see how much they grow right before your eyes–there’s no better feeling!”
