Meet LaTonya Yates-Ford, Marion County School District Teacher of the Year

Today’s #teacherhero is LaTonya Yates-Ford from Marion County School District. Ms. Yates-Ford teaches 8th grade at Palmetto Middle School. Here’s a bit of her story in her own words:

“Teaching is the greatest and most rewarding profession in the world. Every day is a new adventure, be adventurous! The passion you bring to the classroom makes all the difference. The most satisfying part of my day is seeing my students and interacting with them.

I must admit, I did not know I wanted to be a teacher until my senior year of college. This is when the unction to teach impressed my heart. After talking myself out of becoming a teacher, I quickly found myself drawn to the very thing I ran from. After teaching my first technology seminar, I knew I was doing something that I loved. Even since then, I have not regret my career change.

What I love most about my job is making connections and relationships with students, their parents and colleagues. The hardest part of being a teacher is, realizing you cannot save every child. That can be a difficult thing to realize, but work hard for every child because you never know who you will save. Teachers influence the lives of all the students they interact with, so make your interaction impactful but most of all– make it positive!”
