Today’s #teacherhero is Magan Lyerly. Ms. Lyerly teaches third grade at Johnsonville Elementary School. Here’s a bit of her story in her own words:
“I have known I wanted to be a teacher since 3rd grade. I had the best teacher, Mrs. Mirandi Squires–she made learning come to life in our classroom every day.
The most satisfying part of my day is when I see the ‘light bulbs’ come on in my students’ eyes and on their faces. I love seeing my kids get excited about learning, make connections, and be proud of their accomplishments.
The hardest thing about being a teacher is not being able to control outside factors. I see the potential of every child that walks into my classroom, and I wish each one lived in an encouraging, supportive environment. The best advice I can give to teacher prospects is this– get to know each child, celebrate each one’s strengths. Love your students unconditionally, and make learning fun. Although it has its challenges, teaching is the most rewarding job out there.”
