Meet Tamika Fordham, Calhoun County School District’s Teacher of the Year

Today’s #teacherhero: Tamika Fordham from Calhoun County School District.Tamika reminds us how special every individual child is and here is a little bit of her story.

When I was a child, my parents placed a lot of emphasis on making sure my siblings and I received an education. They experienced for themselves the importance of a good education—which later inspired me to have a child care center. My center was going to be named Education First—and the name says it all. We have to center everything on children’s education and needs. I received an early childhood degree in teaching, so that I could learn how to teach each individual child.

The most satisfying part of my day is providing a positive and safe environment filled with fascinating lessons, high expectations, and strategies that address each child’s learning style. I am proud to teach in an environment where I can learn from the experiences and wisdom of my colleagues. Their willingness to collaborate and their encouragement motivates me to create a magical learning experience for my students every day.

My message for people considering to enter the teaching profession would be for you to find that niche that distinguishes you from another teacher–the gift that brings you joy, that makes you stand out. Continue to find your gift and bring it as a teacher to the classroom to help others shine.
