Today’s #teacherhero is James Lies, a 5th grade Math teacher at Belton Elementary!

James feels that he never has enough time and always wants to do more to help his students. Here’s a bit of James’ story in his own words:

I discovered my love of teaching during my senior year of high school in Teacher Cadets. I was working with second graders when it dawned on me that I could have a positive impact for the rest of my life if I taught. In particular, I noticed that the students who had absent fathers were affected the most, and I knew that a life well spent was a life spent teaching.

What I love most about teaching is the opportunity to mentor. I am where I am today because of a few great mentors. Having the ability to interact with, and inspire younger generations is what brings me back to the profession each day.
